Molloy Men's Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce

Lions lose second straight game; shutout 3-0 by No. 16 ranked Franklin Pierce.

Though Molloy senior forward Mike Adamcewicz tallied a game high five shots on goal, it wasn't enough as the men's soccer team was shutout for the second consecutive game in a 3-0 loss to No. 16 ranked Franklin Pierce University in an East Coast Conference/Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Sodexo Field in Rindge, New Hampshire on Saturday.

With the decision, the Lions' dropped to 0-2 on the young season, while the Ravens improved to 2-0 overall.

Franklin Pierce wasted no time in the first half as sophomore midfielder Marc Santos scored a goal in the seventh minute to give the Ravens an early 1-0 lead. FPU junior midfielder Paul Latif was credited with the assist on the score. Around 13 minutes into the second half, Franklin Pierce junior midfielder Victor Goncalves netted his second goal of the season — an unassisted score —  to extend the Ravens' lead to a pair.

Graduate back Jeff Hay put the finishing touches on the game with a Franklin Pierce goal in the 78th minute. On the play, Hay put a loose ball on the goal line into the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage.

Lions' sophomore goalie Michael Hunter and Ravens' junior keeper Vinny Papageorgiou made three saves each. As a squad, Molloy held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, while Franklin Pierce owned a 16-11 margin in shots.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his team return to the field next Saturday when Molloy squares off against East Stroudsburg University in its 2010 home opener at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre. The opening kick is slated for 1 p.m.
