Lady Cyclones Lose to Garden City, 10-7

Cifarelli's four goals was not enough in their first loss of the season.

The Lady Cyclones dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday, losing 10-7 to Garden City.

Tough defense by South Side in the first two quarters held the Trojans to only three first-half goals, and the Lady Cyclones ended the half up 5-3. South Side's Jackie Cifarelli scored three goals in the first half, while Micheala Lynch and Grace Healey each added one of their own.

Garden City started the second half strong, scoring four goals in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Down 7-5, Lynch and Cifarelli scored two more goals for South Side to tie the game at 7 at the 13-minute mark.

The tied game, however, didn't last too long.

Garden City star Caroline Tarzian scored with 6:78 left to give Garden City the lead, and scored again in the final three minutes. Barbara Sullivan added a goal of her own to put Garden City up 10-7.

Lynch had two goals for South Side, and Emily Considine added two assists. South Side's goalkeeper, Kelly Gregerson, finished with 17 saves. Garden City's two goalkeepers for the game, Kelly Weis and Erin Mullin, combined for nine saves.

"This is the best we've ever played Garden City," South Side head coach Meaghan Healey said after the game. "We play them every year and they're an excellent team. We did our best physically and mentally."

South Side's next game (non-league) is against Mineola April 21. Their next league game isn't until next month.
