Hewitt Students Host Hop-a-thon to Help Local Child Care Center

Raise nearly $2,000 for Hi-Hello Child Care Center.

This Halloween, the fifth grade students at Hewitt Elementary gave away more than just candy. Children from Gregg Linker and James Duffy’s fifth grade classes donated their Halloween party to raise money by jumping for Hi-Hello Child Care Center during their first annual Halloween Hop-A-Thon.

When asked why she got her students involved with the Hi-Hello Charity, Gregg Linker said,For years at classroom parties, parents had the children make crafts for their families. At our middle school and high school, Rockville Centre has the students perform community service activities. I felt that the earlier students began this, the more ingrained it would be in their character. It has proven itself this year and inspired me to continue and to strive for a stronger connection with Hi-Hello. ”

During the Hop-A-Thon, students asked sponsors to make a pledge for each hop they completed. In total, students raised more than $1,270. All of the proceeds from the Hop-A-Thon will be used for a new playground floor and shade structures for the toddlers at Hi-Hello Child Care Center.
