During a village board briefing session on Thursday night, trustees received updates on AvalonBay's progress, discussed a workman's compensation plan for the fire department and approved the inception of a junior fire department in the village.

The village board also voted in favor of starting a junior fire department. According to village attorney Tom Levin, the FD submitted a revised set of by-laws that met all required regulations. Junior firefighters will not be fighting fires, but will learn about fire and child safety, attend meetings, and assist department officials and members in non-firefighting and non-emergency tasks.
