Village Board News: Tighe Field and Reverse 911

Trustees discuss using call system to inform residents of polling change for June 21 election.

Village Board trustees discussed whether to use the village's reverse 911 calling system to inform residents of the change to a single polling location in the June 21 election, as well as how to rehabilitate Tighe Field.

The cost of using the system to inform residents of the change is around $800, officials said, and one board member said he doesn't see the need to use it. "I don't see the value in it," Deputy Mayor Chuck Joyce said. "All the literature has gone out, and I don't see the reason for it."

In a move to save the village money — around $10,000 to $12,000 — village trustees voted in January to consolidate Rockville Centre's ten polling locations into one main locale — the recreation center — for the June 21 elections.

Trustee Kevin Glynn said he thought the $800 is money well spent if it helps avoid confusion on election day. "I think it's a worthy investment," he said.

No board action was taken on this topic.

The board was also given an update on the condition of Tighe Field. Parks and Recreation Director Tony Brunetta said that Bob Schenone, the village's landscaping consultant, re-seeded the field.

The problem is that though village organizations were told to stay off the field for the month of May, that hasn't been the case. Trustee Dave Krasula said he saw soccer being played at Tighe Field during two weekends last month.

"They have to stay off the field," Brunetta said.

Mayor Mary Bossart said she wants to meet with the RVC Soccer club to review what needs to be done to renovate the village athletic field.
