Village Board Discusses Renovating Auxiliary Police Building

Trustees also reviewed work bids and tax certiorari settlements.

Tax certiorari settlements, relinquishing dog licensing duties to the Town of Hempstead and the renovation of the Auxiliary Police building were among the topics discussed at Thursday's village board briefing session.

According to Village Administrator Frank Quigley, the village applied for a state grant in 2008 to repair the Auxiliary Police building. There was structural damage to it, he explained, and the village initially wanted to rebuild the entire building. The village went out to bid on the project, but the cost was too prohibitive to move forward with, he said.

The village now has a $100,000 bond, along with the $150,000 state grant to move ahead with the renovation. But to receive the grant, Mayor Mary Bossart will have to sign a grant dispersement agreement, which she is expected to do this Monday.

Trustees also reviewed bids for new police and fire uniforms, as well as material supplies and other items for the village's electric company. They also discussed the settlements of nearly $600,000 worth of tax certiorari cases. The board will most likely take action on these items at Monday's meeting at Village Hall.

The village will also relinquish dog licensing duties to the Town of Hempstead, though village attorney Tom Levin was informed that the town does not know how it will implement the system. Town officials are hopeful that the process will be in place by April, Levin said.
