Sound Off: RVC's New Legislative Lines

Most of the area now falls in the seventh district.

Rockville Centre will now be represented by three Nassau County legislators after the Republicans’ redistricting map was passed last week.

Currently, Democrat Legis. Joseph Scannell serves most of the area, with a portion south of Sunrise Highway represented by Legis. Francis Becker (R-Lynbrook).

Under the new map, Scannell’s district has been pushed east, with only a small portion of Rockville Centre between Salem Road and Seaman Avenue and North Long Beach Road and the east edge of the village — where South Side High School is located — in the new 5th.

Becker’s portion of the village moves northwest, with the 6th district now encompassing most of the area west of Hempstead Avenue from the Southern State Parkway to Sunrise Highway.

Most of Rockville Centre now falls within the 7th legislative district, currently represented by Legis. Howard Kopel (R-Lawrence).
