RVC Mayor: Prepare for Hurricane Season

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray urged residents to prepare accordingly as the region enters the 2013 hurricane season.

Hurricane season began June 1 and goes to November 30. The region is typically most susceptible to hurricanes in August, but Murray said the time to prepare is now.

“The time to prepare for a hurricane is before one threatens the area to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones,” Murray said in a press release. “Stay informed of any changing weather patterns, make a plan to get out quickly if evacuation is necessary and prepare an emergency kit.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the Village of Rockville Centre’s website at www.rvcny.us for more information. Once there, residents may also sign up for the Swift911 emergency notification service which, in its simplest form, is a system that makes phone calls to specific people or areas in the event of an emergency or for sharing important information.

There are also links to follow the Village on Facebook and Twitter, which provides another avenue to stay up to date in the event of an emergency.
