Residents Speak Out on Election Issues
Property taxes and the economy were among their biggest concerns.
On Nov. 8, incumbent Legislator Joseph Scannell, D-Baldwin, will face off against a familiar opponent in Rockville Centre's own Christian Browne in the 5th District.
RVC Patch hit the streets to find out what are the biggest issues for residents, and among them were the economy and property taxes.
"How about how to get the real estate market going again is my biggest concern being in the title business. How about what we're going to do about the whole area by the Coliseum? I'd like to see that development go through. Stop the infighting between parties and work together to actually get something accomplished! — Ellen Cameron, longtime RVC resident

"My biggest concern for the upcoming election is the raising of taxes on residents and small business owners. We already have some of the highest taxes in the country for years now. We must be able to vote in people that can bring this under control. We are driving young people out of here in droves because they simply can't afford it. This is a shame. — Tom McNicholas, owner of Kasey's
"My other concern is re electing people who have been in the same position for years and only when its time for re election do you hear from them." — Tom McNicholas
"Property taxes are too high. Granted we do have one of the best school districs in the county, but the taxes are so high! Especially, if you don't have kids in the school district. It's makes it hard to live in Rockville Centre." — Casey Powell, longtime RVC resident.
