Residents Share Views At Recreation Center

Residents practice their right to vote Tuesday.

Tons of residents walked in and out of the John A. Anderson Recreation Center Tuesday afternoon to vote for the person they feel will change the important issues issues the town is facing — and will continue to do so until 9:00 tonight.

Rockville Center residents shared what issues are most important to them — and some even revealed who they voted for and why.

“I voted for the person who I feel is most capable of running this village and that is the Bossart Team,” said Suzanne Oppenheimer. “Being able to manage in very hard financial times [is the biggest issue to me] and she has shown that she can, and has.”

On the other hand, Ann Schroder said that she is, of course, running for her son in law, Francis Murray.

“He promised he would clean up [the sports fields] and it’s necessary and I think we need a change,” Schroder said.

Rose Bourgeois said she and her husband, Arthur, vote all the time and their biggest issue is with the RVC FD $21 million bond.

“I think it should pass because they’re great,” Bourgeois said. “They’re not paid and if we had to pay them then we couldn’t live in Rockville Centre anymore.”

Other than the bond issue, another important concern to residents is parking.

“The biggest issue to me in this town is lack of parking…and I love the restaurants and independent shops that come in, but for those of us who live in the town, it’s very difficult to even shop locally and support those people because of the lack of parking,” said resident Teresa McCabe.

Geraldine Fattoruso said she came out to vote because it is her duty and she would like to see Rockville Centre revitalized.

“There are a lot of empty stores and it doesn’t look nice,” Fattoruso said. “They say they’re not losing any money, but who knows.”

Fattoruso also said the $21 million bond issue is “out of control” because it’s “too much money to spend.”

“Yes we need the fire houses, but those guys are handy enough to do it.”

As one anonymous voter said, “I came out to vote because it is our right and if you don’t vote, you can’t complain.”
