Mayor Murray: RKO Theater to Come Down, Potential Suitor Found

Theater property has been vacant since 2006.

It's been seven years since the property on Sunrise Highway known as the RKO Twin Theater saw its last customer, but that might not be the case for much longer.

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray confirmed in his most recent "State of the Village" address that the theater will be torn down and a potential restaurant could go in its place.

According to the address:

... after working with the owner of this property for almost a year, one of the worst eyesores in our village will be gone -- the old RKO is coming down.

A new family restaurant called "Bonefish" is planned for that location.

While no expiration date has been set for the theater, the proposed restaurant is the first inkling of business at the location since the theater closed in January of 2006.

Murray told Patch in April of 2012 that three different individuals were interested in the property, including a "national chain restaurant."

Bonefish will be a great addition to RVC. But parking is another story.

I have noticed this a few times. Not a good trend when I have noticed postings are down.

Not a huge fan of franchises, but it this is the franchise, it looks like it can be very cool. They seem to have stages for live bands. The venue is large enough to support that. Looks like a lot of fun.

Statement in not clear about "Bonefish", and parking would be a very big issue. It would be nice not to have that eyesore on the corner
