Mayor Murray: RKO Theater to Come Down, Potential Suitor Found

Theater property has been vacant since 2006.

It's been seven years since the property on Sunrise Highway known as the RKO Twin Theater saw its last customer, but that might not be the case for much longer.

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray confirmed in his most recent "State of the Village" address that the theater will be torn down and a potential restaurant could go in its place.

... after working with the owner of this property for almost a year, one of the worst eyesores in our village will be gone -- the old RKO is coming down.

A new family restaurant called "Bonefish" is planned for that location.

While no expiration date has been set for the theater, the proposed restaurant is the first inkling of business at the location since the theater closed in January of 2006.

Murray told Patch in April of 2012 that three different individuals were interested in the property, including a "national chain restaurant."
