Legislator Scannell Supports Adelphi's Efforts to Increase Breast Cancer Awareness

The lawmaker encourages 5th Legislative District residents to call the University's hotline for help and support.

Nassau County Legislator Joe Scannell (D-Baldwin) has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in their October breast cancer awareness campaign to encourage women to get mammograms.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a significant time to remind women to get mammograms,” said Legislator Scannell. “Often, women will put their own health on hold as they take care of family members. But when you take care of yourself, you are taking care of your family.”

The hotline has been in existence for over three decades. It is a project of the Adelphi School of Social Work on Long Island, and all services are free. Callers can also get emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of who are women who have had breast cancer.
