Bonefish Grill Approved to Replace RKO Theater

Village board unanimously approves new restaurant.

The RKO Theater is officially history.

The Rockville Centre Village Board approved the construction of Bonefish Grill at its meeting Wednesday night. The restaurant will replace the long-shuttered theater located at 340 Sunrise Highway.

After the restaurant and all of its amenities went before the board of appeals and were approved, the village board unanimously voted in favor of Bonefish Grill's arrival in the village.

Steven Jacobson, product development coordinator for the project, said the new restaurant will be 5,400 square feet with a patio.

"I think it's a vast improvement over the dilapidated theater that is currently [located there]," Jacobson said.

The RKO Theater has been abandoned since it closed its doors in January of 2006.

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray said that the village had been working with Bonefish Grill for more than a year in regards to the space on Sunrise Highway.

"We're glad to have you," Village Trustee Micahel Sepe said upon approval.

Bonefish Grill is a seafood restaurant based out of Tampa, Fla., with more than 100 restaurants across the country.
