A Yeshiva student from Queens responsible for a slew of anti-Semitic graffiti the plagued the Cedarhurst train station and disappointed the Five Towns community, according to Nassau County and MTA Police.

Jonathan Schuster, 18, of Far Rockaway, faces hate crime, criminal mischief, and graffiti charges after he scrawled offensive remarks on advertisements at the Cedarhurst Long Island Railroad station, cops said.

Police said Schuster used a black marker to write anti-Semitic remarks and expletives on eight separate occasions since December 2012.

Schuster was charged with eight counts of third-degree felony criminal mischief as a hate crime, eight counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, and eight counts of making graffiti.

Tipsters from the area who called in to Nassau County Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Explorers helped lead authorities to arrest Schuster, who is a senior at Priority-1: Torah Academy of Lawrence-Cedarhurst, authorities stated.

11 total incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti have been reported since December 2012. MTA Police said they are still hunting the culprit responsible for the other incidents, including three at Lawrence LIRR station and one at Hewlett LIRR station.

“I’m proud of the successful joint efforts between the Nassau County Police Department and MTA to apprehend the person responsible for the many anti-Semitic crimes that occurred in the Five Towns,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.

I think anyone who displays violent tendencies needs help REGARDLESS of where the person was raised. I dont think anyone is "above" anyone else. "that background" just refers to a yeshiva high school education- nothing else. I am NOT making excuses- you obviously did not understand my post. FTPATCH- what do you mean by your statement
Hamburger February 10, 2014 at 06:50 AM
I think we all know what clearly needs to be done
Dons Wife February 10, 2014 at 10:11 AM
Gail-You are so wrong. I did not want to bring "R" word into this but since Pat brought it up - let's talk about it. You know that the punishment you're suggesting would have been completely opposite if the kid were of a "different" background. Be honest!
Jonathan Kaplan February 10, 2014 at 12:06 PM
Miss Gail Levi do you consider this to be "anti-Semitic" graffiti or rather the act of a guy who is frustrated with his community leaders?
gail levi February 10, 2014 at 12:13 PM
I have not seen the actual graffiti so I cannot comment exactly, but my guess would be the latter
gail levi February 10, 2014 at 12:16 PM
Don's wife- I said "part" of the punishment- he should still have to answer to the law for his actions.
Jonathan Kaplan February 10, 2014 at 12:19 PM
Gail Levi there are photos of the graffiti at the top of the article (duh)
Jonathan Kaplan February 10, 2014 at 12:24 PM
His punishment should be equivalent to someone writing the Mayor is an asshole in graffiti essentially that's what he did
Carmela Soprano February 10, 2014 at 01:24 PM
It remains a hate crime. Don't minimize it.
Jonathan Kaplan February 10, 2014 at 01:37 PM
We'll see how it plays out in court, I would expect the hate-crime charges to be dropped.

It would be better if all people under the age of 18 are treated and helped for whatever their potential crime might be. If the person is found guilty. They need a complete individual assessment both physical and mental. The recommendations generated by this assessment should be carried out in a non- criminal facility. It is better for both the person and the community these young people are introduced to a path of help rather than punishment. It is always better to educate than incarcerate.

There are Woody Allen/ George Costanza type self hating Jews in the 5 Towns who have been extremely critical of the efficient manner the Orthodox have been in their involvement in community manners. This graffitti is a sympton of that biggoted and hateful criticism that probably was inculcated in this teen through some unknown means. That makes it a hate crime eventhough the self haters want to rationalize something else. They are the blame for this ultimately.

But strapping a child to a table and cutting the tip of his penis off without his consent is perfectly fine and legal. Way to go America. Way to go. I don't understand why circumcision isn't classified as molestation, assault and battery, bodily harm, sexual assault, child abuse, child neglect. It should be prohibited by federal law to mutilate children's penises.

Half the community is in full verklempt. The other half is only in fair to moderate geshpilkas. That is one of the primary sources of the tensions here
Benny Gamal February 11, 2014 at 08:55 AM
Doug you are a bigoted bufoon, how dare you lump together a disparate group of people you call "the Orthodox" and label them a monolithic group that believes and acts in an identical way. We are each so different that your comments are easily disproven . We have so many different synagogues and schools because we as individuals have differing viewpoints. Also, several orthodox families send their children to area public schools. Oh, and Doug, I assure you, as a former race car driver, I can drive circles and figure eights around you, and my Orthodox buddies with their Maseratis, Bentleys and Aston Martins can teach you a lot about driving in the Five Towns!
Benny Gamal February 11, 2014 at 09:06 AM
Pat, you know so little of about the world. When I was a child my Orthodox Synagogue was repeatedly vandalized by a troubled local Irish teen. We kept the police out of it and dealt directly with the mother of the young man who was deeply ashamed of the behavior of her son. When her son was later killed as a result of gang violence, our Synagogue helped the grieving mother financially and was very kind and decent towards her. I guess you never would imagine this kindness in your little neurotic narrative.

I...for one am sick of this......we are all people....of different faiths and races....we all live in this community.....let's live in it together....peacefully ....there will always be some bigoted butt head out there making waves....everyone should just LET IT BE......now there's a Beatles tune....Live and let live.....let the courts decide what to do with this young man....he may have a problem...he may not......this whole thread is getting on my nerves.....but it's like a train wreck....have to look
Kathryn Mennella February 11, 2014 at 10:46 AM
Let there be peace on earth and let it start in the five towns

Sure, blame the Orthodox. They keep the community neat and clean and ask only for some fiscal oversight, but the self haters Woody Allen types who control the teacher unions want more and more tax money to promote their self hating agenda in the schools.
Hamburger February 13, 2014 at 02:29 PM
I heard they claim religious exemptions to avoid paying tax in Long Beach
Jack February 14, 2014 at 01:59 PM
The amount of money being misappropriated by the schools and teacher's unions is far worse.
Carmela Soprano February 17, 2014 at 02:02 PM
If the public school district is misappropriating funds, why is the public not holding the board responsible? Clearly, they are the ones who approve budgets to be voted on. For the last 5-6 years, the budget has been stripped to keep costs down, but transportation costs continue to skyrocket. All that hos nothing to do with a person who clearly posted hate messages on private and public property. He should be held clearly accountable for his actions.
Jack February 17, 2014 at 10:34 PM
The public did hold the school system accountable some years ago. That is how this all started. Union thugs and their syncophants in the secular self hating community have been browbeating people into thinking the Orthodox are at fault to hold the school system fiscally responsible unlike other districts on Long Island. The secular self haters are fleeing because they are hypocritical bigots who don't wan't to send their kids to school with hispanics and blacks . The irony here is that these secular self hating bigots consistently vote democrat who push the illegals/ affirmative action progressive left wing agenda. Lawrence is becoming the new Far Rockaway, Inwood, Lauralton, Elmont, Valley Stream, Roosevelt, Hempstead, Lynbrook.

Communities only change when the leaders have their own agendas that are in conflict with the people they represent. This is not a religious issue, this is a human issue.
