UPDATE: Woman Jumped in Front of Train in Merrick

She was struck by the 10:27 westbound train from Babylon.

Story by Michael Ganci:

UPDATE: A Long Island Rail Road spokesman confirmed that the woman killed Sunday night after being struck by a train jumped off the platform in Merrick.

According to Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the Long Island Rail Road, the train that struck her was the westbound 10:27 p.m. from Babylon that was due at Penn Station at 11:44 p.m.

Initially, LIRR officials told Patch that the deceased was a man, but that information has since been corrected.

Service was suspended for more than three hours while police investigated the manner.

MTA Police and local emergency medical service personnel responded to the scene, but the woman was dead and officially pronounced by the Nassau County Medical Examiner.

According to Salvatore Arena from the LIRR, service was gradually restored beginning at about midnight with residual delays. The MTA Police have not yet identified the woman and their investigation is continuing.
