Safeguarding Footbridge Where Body Was Found

Officials say they will clear out any foliage and add lighting to the scene.

Days after a Lynbrook woman was believed to be murdered there, Rockville Centre officials are taking action to secure the Merrick Road footbridge.

"We're having the foliage cut down right now," said Mayor Francis Murray. The process will be complete within three days, he said.

"We will be lighting that whole area up," he added, addressing the darkened area around the footbridge.

Police have charged Maxwell Sherman, 18, of Long Beach, with Daverin's murder.

Residents reacted to the tragedy, saying the spot was believed to be a hub for alcohol and drug usage and was badly in need of surveillance.
