RVC Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash

Johanna Taveras, 33, struck a tree alongside the Southern State Parkway, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Rockville Centre woman was killed Monday morning after she lost control of her car and struck a tree alongside the Southern State Parkway.

According to New York State Police, the one-car crash took place at 4:22 a.m. when Johanna Taveras, 33, was driving her 2001 Hyundai Sonata on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway, east of 5th Avenue in the Town of Islip.

She drove off the roadway and struck a tree on the right shoulder, cops said, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by a Brentwood Ambulance EMT. Cops didn't say what caused her to lose control of her vehicle.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to call New York State Police at 631-756-3000.
