RVC Woman Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter [Updated]

Cops say woman was drunk at the wheel when she crashed into a parked tractor trailer and killed its passenger.

Update, Sept. 16, 11:30 a.m. 

Asya Ulmer, 21, of Rockville Centre, was arraigned Monday on charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence. Bail was set at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. Ulmer faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. She is represented by Fred Brewington, Esq. and is due back in court Sept. 18.

A Rockville Centre woman faces vehicular manslaughter charges after she drove drunk and crashed into a parked tractor trailer and killed a passenger, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said Asya Ulmer, 21, of Rockville Centre, was drunk at the wheel of a 2000 BMW when she struck a parked tractor trailer at 5:50 a.m. Sunday. Ulmer was traveling north on North Center Avenue near Meehan Street when the collision occurred, police reported.

Jennifer Alexis, 21, of Bayside, was in the front passenger seat of Ulmer's car at the time of the crash, cops said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Ulmer was rushed to South Nassau Community Hospital by the Rockville Centre Fire and Police Departments after complaining she was in pain, police said.

Cops charged Ulmer with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence. She will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
