Named the department's Cop of the Month.
Rockville Centre Police Officer Matthew Vario was named “Cop of the Month” for his June pursuit and arrest of a man who fled through two downtown parking lots after being seen breaking into cars.
Officer Vario responded at about 11:20 a.m. on June 10 to a call from a motorist who caught two men opening his car door and tried to steal items from it.
The men fled from Municipal Parking Field No. 1, east of Park Avenue between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road, and Vario coordinated an area search with other responding officers and located the duo in Municipal Parking Field No. 7 behind the Fantasy Theatre.
