Police Officer Assaulted at Mercy Medical Center

An intoxicated male allegedly injured the officer in the emergency room.

A Valley Stream man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly assaulting a Nassau County police officer during a drunken struggle at the Mercy Medical Center.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 3 a.m. two Nassau County police officers, while on an assignment at the emergency room of Mercy Hospital, were alerted to a disturbance in the hallway. The officers went to assist a Nassau County EMT and a nurse, who were trying to restrain a highly intoxicated patient.

The patient, Justin Gamba, 20, of Valley Stream, refused all directions of the officers to stop fighting, police said. During the struggle to control Gamba, one of the police officers sustained an injury to his back.
