Police K-9 Apprehends Baldwin Man, Second Suspect This year

Dog injured while chasing suspect.

What do Baldwin residents Troy Deans and Kareem Brown have in common? They've both been apprehended by the same police dog this year.

Nassau County Police canine Gehrig nabbed his second suspect -- the 23-year-old Brown -- early Tuesday morning after Brown allegedly violated an order of protection in Roslyn Heights.

According to detectives, Brown fled the scene after a 20-year-old female contacted police around 3:40 a.m. Police officers and Gehrig responded to search the area for Brown.

Police said Gehrig located Brown on Pearsall Place where he was placed under arrest.

During Gehrig’s pursuit of Brown, the dog was injured on a fence requiring immediate surgery to correct his condition, police said.

Brown is charged with two counts of aggravated family offense, three counts of criminal contempt in the first degree, kill/injure police animal and criminal trespass in the third degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Back in March, Gehrig caught Deans after the suspect allegedly broke into a Baldwin home on Central Avenue.

Police said that Deans was responsible for three more burglaries in the area.
