Police: Elderly Man Carjacked in East Meadow

The 72-year-old victim was not injured, police said.

A 72-year-old man was carjacked in front of 2000 Hempstead Turnpike on Monday night, police said.

The victim was not injured.

According to police, the victim was sitting in his Dodge Caravan near the Home Depot parking lot when a man opened the passenger door, entered and demanded the victim's wallet.

The victim tried to exit the car and then a struggle ensued, resulting in both men falling to the ground, police said.

The suspect then stole the victim's wallet and car keys and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike, authorities said.

Police said that the car was later recovered a short time later on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.

The suspect is described as a white man, who is 25 to 30-years-old, around 220 pounds and has a mustache.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at (800)244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.

Steve, the residents of East Meadow are delicate geniuses. They only allow Jose or some other immigrant pick up their garbage. Maybe their waiting for Mangano or Murray to clean up their properties.

People of all ages should get into the habit of locking themselves in as soon as they enter their car because sometimes they become easily distracted and not aware of their surroundings.
