POLICE: Double Homicide Suspect from Florida Nabbed in RVC

Bryan Caldwell, 23, of Florida, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

A Florida fugitive wanted for double homicide was nabbed by police in Rockville Centre Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The arrest of Bryan Caldwell, 23, of Florida, was a culmination of an eight-month long search that began in North Greenwood, FL. and ended nearly 1,200 miles away in Rockville Centre.

According to detectives, members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Nassau County Police Department Fugitive Squad responded to 38 Vincent St. and arrested Caldwell for an open warrant issued from Pinellas County, FL. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters and charged locally as a fugitive from justice.

Caldwell is a suspect in a double homicide that occurred in North Greenwood, FL. in April. Victims William Hamilton, 30, and Derrick Harris, 23,  near La Salle Street and North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on April 3.

Police were patrolling when they heard shots ring out shortly after 11 p.m. They found Harris surrounded by a crowd of nearly 40 and dying from a gunshot wound. He was taken to , where he died. Hamilton was dropped off by a friend at the same hospital, but it was too late.

"This was a collaborative effort between the Clearwater Police Department and
the U.S. Marshals Office," said Deputy Chief Sandra Wilson. "The U.S. Marshals Office was instrumental in getting this wanted felon off of the street and bringing some sort of closure to the families and the community."

Caldwell was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and felony violation of probation. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
