Police Continue Search for Missing Woman at Hempstead Lake

Woman, with Garden City address, went missing on Father's Day.

New York State Police are still searching for a 28-year-old homeless woman who was last spotted on Father's Day in the North Pond area of Hempstead Lake State Park.

Police said that Catherine Brady went missing on June 16, but State Park Police Lt. Anthony Astacio told Newsday [paid link] that she wasn't reported missing until Saturday.

Brady's companion has known she was missing since June 16, Astacio said, adding that it was unclear why the man did not report the disappearance earlier. The man is not considered a suspect and no foul play is suspected, Astacio said.

Brady, who has a Garden City address, has been living in the park, according to multiple reports.

State Park Police, New York State Police and Nassau County Police have conducted a two-day search of the grounds and lake with negative results. Flyers have also been distributed throughout the area.

Police are asking anyone who may have information as to the whereabouts of Brady to call the New York State Park Police at (631) 669-2500. All calls will be kept confidential.
