Oceanside Couple Identified in Reported Murder-Suicide

Investigation underway after police find couple dead during wellness check.

Update: July 16 at 4:20 p.m. 

Police have identified the deceased as Christine Braun Johnson, 63, and James Johnson, 73, both of 2856 Nicole Court in Oceanside. Both victims suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

Insp. Kenneth Lack of the Nassau County Police Department told Newsday [paid link] that the incident was a murder-suicide.

       Neighbor Gil Balanoff said the couple -- a retired architect-engineer who loved fishing, and his wife, an avid tennis player -- had lived for more than 25 years at Brower Oakview Condominium, a complex of about 45 town homes.

A husband and wife were found dead in their Oceanside home Monday evening.

According to Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives, Fourth Precinct officers responded to a Nicole Court residence just after 6 p.m. Monday to conduct a wellness check on the homeowners.

Upon arrival, officers found a 73-year-old man and his 63-year-old wife deceased inside the home.

The names of the couple are being withheld pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.
