Nicholas DeLuca Named RVCPD Cop of the Month After Drug Bust

Early morning drug bust put criminal with "lengthy history" behind bars.

Police Officer Nicholas DeLuca was named "Cop of the Month" by the Rockville Centre Police Department for the Nov. 1 arrest of a man in possession of prescription pills, marijuana and crack cocaine on Powell Avenue.

DeLuca was on patrol at 4 a.m. when he observed a car occupied by two males parked with its engine running, according to a release from the village. Parking his patrol car out of view, DeLuca next observed a female exit a residence and approach the car.

DeLuca then radioed police headquarters for assistance and approached the car to interview the three subjects.

Subsequent investigation revealed drugs in the possession of the driver of the car, who was arrested on two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

During the investigation it was learned that the arrested driver had a lengthy history of committing drug-related crimes and had previously been arrested for drug-related offenses in Rockville Centre, Freeport and Garden City.

Police Commissioner Chuck Gennario commended DeLuca for his “diligence, dedication to duty and highly professional conduct” in naming him Cop of the Month.
