Brooklyn man pleads guilty in exchange for promised eight-year prison sentence.

A Brooklyn man pleaded guilty to robbery Wednesday for his role in the armed robbery of a Baldwin Radio Shack in May 2012.

According to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Dominique Navarro, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to the top charge against him, robbery in the first degree, in exchange for a promised eight-year prison sentence.

Rice said that at approximately 11:30 a.m. on May 15, Navarro and three other men, Cory Elliott, Jonathan Bryan and an unapprehended suspect, backed their vehicle up to the front door of the Grand Avenue Radio Shack in Baldwin.

The defendants entered store, displayed a handgun and restrained the lone store clerk by tying his hands together with plastic straps, Rice said. The defendants locked the front door and began gathering electronics and cash from the register.

A witness called 9-1-1 after observing the defendants entering the store and then finding the front door locked, Rice said. Responding officers observed the defendants exit through the store’s rear door.

Navarro was the first taken into custody and a .45 caliber handgun was found in his possession, Rice said. Bryant and Elliott were arrested nearby a short time later.

Bryant and Elliot previously pleaded guilty to robbery in the first degree and are awaiting sentencing, Rice said.

"This brazen and violent attack in broad daylight underscores the depths these men were willing to go to to get what they wanted," Rice said. "I commend the police officers who risked their lives to arrest these dangerous criminals and the members of my office who ensured their convictions."

Navarro will be sentenced April 25.
