A North Woodmere man was arrested after allegedly robbing a bank around 9 a.m. Friday.

A North Woodmere man was arrested after a bank robbery that occurred Friday morning in Rockville Centre.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 9:20 a.m. the defendant, Jamie Bernard, 22, entered the TD Bank at 290 Merrick Road and allegedly handed a demand note to a teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, Bernard fled out the rear door into a municipal parking lot.

At 10:50 a.m., Bureau of Special Operations officers located Bernard, who was hiding behind a garage on S. Marion Place and placed him under arrest without incident, police said.

According to police, during the robbery there were seven employees present. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The defendant is charged with robbery in the third degree and will be arraigned on Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Editor's Note: The original report said Bernard was from Valley Stream.

Did anyone ever think about getting help for people who do things like this as opposed to making flipant comments like 'great job guys' and 'way to go'?
Instead of being reactive, why don't we become a proactive nation? I believe that where there is a fruit, there is a root and you cannot separate the two. I pray that he comes to realise the error of his ways and learns how to be the best at what he can be in a positive way. I do not condone any kind of criminal activity, but I do believe that in order to eradicate these problems you have to look at the cause and work from there. Prevention is always better than cure.
