Hempstead Home Collapses After Possible Explosion

Emergency personnel from Rockville Centre are also on the scene.

A home in Hempstead collapsed following a possible explosion Wednesday afternoon.

Fire and police personnel are on scene of the Perry Street home. Two families were affected by the incident.

A Rockville Centre fire official confirmed that their technical team was called in for "mutual aid."

The Red Cross Long Island unit responded to the scene also.

"The Red Cross is presently working with one family (two adults and three children) to provide emergency housing and funds for food and clothing," a statement from the Red Cross read. "A second family (one adult and three children) is currently at a nearby hospital. Red Cross caseworkers will meet with them to provide similar assistance."
