Crimes Nearby: Robbery Puts Lynbrook, ER Schools on Lock Down

The following information was supplied by the Lynbrook, Malverne and Nassau County Police Departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Nassau County Police are still searching for the man who robbed an East Rockaway convenience store using a handgun late Tuesday morning.

According to detectives, a 56-year-old man working at Card Corner, located at 93 Main St., was approached at 11:18 a.m. by a white male who displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The victim complied, and the suspect then fled on foot southbound on Rhame Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim was alone in the store at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is further described as 6-feet tall with a slim build, wearing a blue sweater with a hood over his head, a white scarf over his face, dark pants and a blue and white baseball cap. 

Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

The incident put two East Rockaway public schools -- Rhame Avenue and Centre Avenue -- on lock down and Lynbrook public schools under a "lock out." The "lock out" was lifted for Lynbrook schools shortly after 1 p.m., according to the district's website, which stated, "We have been informed that it is safe to resume normal activity."

Arrests

  • Michael J. Braguglia, 34, of East Rockaway, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 7:45 a.m. and charged with two counts of Criminal Contempt on Blake Avenue in Lynbrook.
  • Corey Jessup, 43, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 3:31 p.m. and charged with Petit Larceny on Merrick Road in Lynbrook.
  • Jonathan Derteano, 29, of Fresh Meadows, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 9:51 p.m. and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance on Lakewood Boulevard in Lynbrook.
  • Tefik Veseli, 26, of Bayside, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 9:51 p.m. and charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana on Lakewood Boulevard in Lynbrook.
  • Richard Prado, 22, of Long Island City, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 9:51 p.m and charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana on Lakewood Boulevard in Lynbrook.
  • Brenden J. Varady, 22, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Jan. 8 at 11:15 p.m. and charged with Assault for an incident that occurred on Oakland Avenue on Jan. 1 in Lynbrook.
  • Xiuqin Qi, 35, of Flushing, was arrested on Jan. 9 at 1:50 p.m. and charged with two counts of Unauthorized Practice at 337 Merrick Road in Lynbrook. The defendant, while employed as a massage therapist at The Recovery Center, allegedly performed a massage without being licensed by the State of New York.
  • Keith T. Millone, 22, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Jan. 10 at 10:42 a.m. and charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana and Tinted Windows on Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook.
  • Steven M. Campbell, 27, of Kings Park, was arrested on Jan. 11 at 10:40 a.m. and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation on Vincent Avenue in Lynbrook.
  • Gregory C. Harris, 28, of Valley Stream, was arrested on Jan. 11 at 6:55 p.m. and charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana and Tinted Windows on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook.
  • Mary Ann Hill, 30, of Wantagh, was arrested on Jan. 12 at 6:30 a.m. and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Suspended Registration and Uninsured Motor Vehicle on Waterview Place in Lynbrook.
  • Robert Homer, 39, of Springfield Gardens, was arrested on Jan. 13 at 11:45 a.m. and charged with Criminal Impersonation, False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Equipment Violation on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook.

Case Reports

  • Grand Larceny - The Branch Manager of Enterprise, located at 184 Merrick Road in Lynbrook, reported at 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 7, that their 2013 Volkswagen Toureg, which was at Sunrise Volkswagen, was stolen by unknown person(s). The value of the vehicle is $40,000.
  • Aggravated Harassment - At 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 8,  a complainant reports receiving harassing text messages that put him/her in fear of his/her safety. The Lynbrook Detective Division is investigating.
  • Assault – A complainant responded to Nassau County Police Department at 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 8 to report that, while at a social gathering on Oakland Avenue on Jan. 1, the complainant was assaulted around 1 a.m. by another person. The Lynbrook Police Department Detective Division is currently investigating the assault.
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle - The security manager of Hertz Rent-a-Car, located at 56 Horton Ave. in Lynbrook, reported at 12:10 p.m. on Jan. 9 that their 2012 Chevrolet Impala, which was rented on Sept. 15, has not been returned.
  • Harassment - At 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 12, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) made false 911 calls of a natural gas leak at their residence. The calls have harassed the complainant and him/her in fear of his/her safety. The Lynbrook Detective Division is investigating.
  • Criminal Mischief - At 5 p.m. on Jan. 12, a complainant reports that an unknown person(s) damaged the P.V.C. fence at their residence on Sherman Street. The total amount of the damage is $1,000.
