Crimes Nearby: Elderly Lynbrook Couple Victim of Burglary Ruse

A look at crimes and incidents in the areas surrounding Rockville Centre.

Police said an elderly couple were victim of an alleged larceny in Lynbrook early Saturday evening after a man sought entry into their home under the guise of fixing their roof.

According to detectives, a Hispanic man knocked on the door of their Peninsula Boulevard home and offered to perform a roof repair for $350. The couple told police they noticed two Hispanic females and a child sitting in the back of a black pick up truck. They agreed to the repair and offered for the people in the car to stay in their home to stay cool, police said.

The victims retrieved $350 from a container in which they keep cash, replaced the lid and placed it in the sink. They paid the man and were said they were momentarily distracted when he asked to use the restroom.

Burglaries, Larcenies and other crimes in Valley Stream, West Hempstead, Malverne, Elmont and Lakeview

A North Valley Stream home on S. Everett Street was reportedly burglarized on the night of July 6.

Two homes in Elmont were burglarized this week - one on Oakwood Place on July 6 and the other on Renfrew Avenue.

Business Burglaries:

Cards For Less in Franklin Square, located on New Hyde Park Road, was burglarized on July 5.

A Shell gas station in Elmont was burglarized on July 7.

Grand Larcenies:

A vehicle parked on Miriam Street in Valley Stream overnight on July 6 to July 7 was stolen.

A car parked on 237th Street in Elmont on July 7 was stolen.

A car parked on Elizabeth Street in North Valley Stream was stolen overnight on July 7 to July 8. The victim may have left the car key in the front passenger side door.

A game system and laptop were stolen from a car parked on Cleveland Street in Lakeview on July 7.

Tires and rims were stolen from several cars parked on S. Jasper Street in North Valley Stream on July 6, Paterson Avenue and Willow Road in Franklin Square on July 11, and Evans Road, Leighton Road and Toyota Bayside on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont from July 6 to July 11.

Items were stolen from Merrick Road Collision on Merrick Road in Lynbrook on the night of July 5 after unknown subjects cut a hole in the property's fence to gain entrance to the rear yard.

A black handbag was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Doughty Avenue in Franklin Square on the night of June 30.

A wallet and GPS were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Emily Avenue in Elmont overnight on July 7 to July 8. 

Other Larcenies/Thefts:

A GPS and other items were stolen from an unlocked car parked on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead on July 7.

A Bluetooth headset and GPS were stolen from a car parked on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead overnight on July 6 to July 7.

A GPS was stolen from a vehicle believed to be left unlocked while parked on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream on July 7. 

Items were stolen from two vehicles parked in Valley Stream on July 8 to July 9. One was parked on Elizabeth Street and the other at Green Acres Mall.

Criminal Mischief:

A homeowner on 239th Street in Elmont reported that an unknown person put a substance on their lawn on June 29 causing the majority of their grass to burn out and die.

Two victims in Elmont reported that an unknown person threw a brick through the dining room window of their homes on 240th Street and Goodwin Road on July 6.

Two victims in Franklin Square reported that an unknown person spray painted their cars while parked on Doris Avenue and Harrison Street. In one incident the subjects also cracked the car's windshield and slashed one tire.

Two victims in West Hempstead reported that an unknown subject ripped off their driver's side windows. The first incident occurred on the night of July 8 on Nassau Boulevard and the other on July 10 on Dunster Drive.

A victim in Valley Stream reported that an unknown person scratched her car from the driver's side all the way around to the passenger's side while parked on Brown Street on the night of July 10.
