A man convicted of murder after driving drunk and killing a Lido Beach girl is making a second attempt to have his conviction overturned. Martin Heidgen, who of the only people nationwide to be convicted of depraved indifference to murder after a drunk driving crash, will plead his case to the Court of Appeal, New York State’s highest court, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Read more here.

Elmont Man Extridited to US to Face Student Rape Charges

An Elmont man is facing up to 25 years in prison after being arrested in India for the 2009 rape of a 14-year-old girl who was walking past his house on her way to class at Sewanhaka High School. Amit Singh, 32, was arraigned on Sept. 30 on grand jury indictment charges of first and second degree rape, first and third degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Man Convicted in Slaying of North Woodmere Speaker Gets New Trial

The man convicted of killing North Woodmere motivational speaker Jeffrey Locker will get a new trial. Kenneth Minor was convicted on one count of second-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for his role in the death of Locker, whose body was found on July 16, 2009, in his car in Harlem. Minor has claimed that he only held a knife, as Locker, whose hands were bound behind his back, thrust himself up the blade.Read more here.

Cops: Man Found with Semiautomatic Gun During Traffic Stop

A Freeport man faced criminal weapons charges after he was found with a loaded semiautomatic gun during a traffic stop, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said Christopher A. Betty, 45, of Freeport, was stopped by Rockville Centre Police as he was driving east on Sunrise Highway at 11:20 p.m. Monday. Police said he was stopped for having a broken tail light. Read more here.

Family Says Victim Wasn't Texting Before Fatal Crash

A West Hempstead man lost control of his vehicle before crashing into a tree on Stewart Avenue just before 10 p.m. Thursday in Garden City, Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives report. Michele Guglielmi, 59, was operating a 1998 Volvo eastbound on Stewart Avenue when he crossed into the westbound lanes striking a tree on the north side of the street, east of Kildare Road, according to a police report. Read more here.
