Crime Watch: Robbery and Assault at Merrick Road Eatery

Local police activity as reported by the RVC PD.

The following information was supplied by the RVC Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Arrests:

On May 5 at 1:15 a.m., Ronald P. O’ Connor, 47, of Oceanside, was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, and failing to display a front license plate while operating a 2010 Volkswagon eastbound on Sunrise Highway.

On May 5 at 9:47 p.m., Ronald A. Garay, 36, of Lynbrook, was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed operation after being involved in a property damage only auto accident on Sunrise Highway.

On May 6 at 10:34 p.m., Edwin Marmol, 23, of Rockville Centre, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of marijuana during a disturbance in Municipal Parking Field No. 7.

On May 8 at 12:13 a.m., Alejandro Rodriguez, 24, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Merrick Road after he was found to have an open bench warrant for unlawful possession of marijuana.

On May 8 at 2:57 a.m., Rafael L. Ramos, 22, of Baldwin, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief after damaging a 2003 Nissan 350z during a disturbance that occurred in Municipal Parking Field No. 1.

On May 6, at 11:29 p.m., a 16-year-old male, of Freeport, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after he was observed obstructing pedestrian traffic on N. Park Avenue.

On May 7 at 10:30 p.m., a 17-year-old male, of RVC, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration in MPF No. 8.

On May 7 at 10:30 p.m., an 18-year-old male, of RVC, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration in MPF No. 8.

On May 7 at 10:23 p.m., a 16-year-old male, of RVC, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct during a disturbance on Merrick Road.

Assault:

On May 6 at 3 a.m., a Cedarhurst resident reported that he and a friend were assaulted by three males at Merrick Road and N.Park Avenue.

Criminal Mischief:

On May 6 at 7:45 a.m., a storeowner on S. Village Ave. reported an unknown person broke a front window by throwing a garbage pail into it.

On May 7 at 3 p.m., a Cedar Avenue resident reported the rear window of his 2005 Chrysler minivan was damaged while the vehicle was parked in the street between 1:30 and 2 p.m.

Graffiti:

On May 2 at 12:34 p.m., graffiti was observed on the bricks on the Village of RVC sign on westbound Sunrise Highway at the east boundary.

On May 5 at 1 p.m., graffiti was observed on stop signs and a light pole in the vicinity of Raymond Street and Southard Avenue.

Larceny:

On May 2 at 10:05 p.m., a Lakeview Avenue resident reported an unknown person entered his open garage and stole a leaf blower and a bicycle. Theft occurred between April 26-30. 

On May 4 at 5:45 p.m., a Vanderveer Court resident reported her cell phone was stolen by an acquaintance.

On May 5 at 4:50 p.m., a Whitby Court resident reported a bicycle was stolen from the front of her home. Incident occurred within the last week.

On May 7, nine residents reported an unknown person entered their unlocked vehicles and stole coins overnight. The incidents occurred on Princeton Road, Dorchester Road, Whitby Court, Hempstead Avenue, Bradford Court and Morris Avenue.

Robbery:

On May 10 at 5:30 a.m., a cook at the Chichen Itza Restaurant, located at 212 Merrick Road, reported hearing banging on the rear basement door. Upon opening the door, he was confronted by a male who punched him in his face and chest several times and removed $185  from his pocket. The victim sustained contusions and lacerations and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.  During the course of the investigation, multiple building code violations were observed within the restaurant and Rockville Centre building department personnel responded to the scene to investigate the building code violations.  The investigations for both the robbery and the building code violations are ongoing.
