Cops Searching for Man Who Shot at Woman Nearby

Victim tried to escape gunfire in car, was shot at by unknown gunman, cops said.

Nassau County Police are searching for a man who shot at a woman’s car as she tried to flee in her car and caused her to hit a pole.

Cops said a 25-year-old woman was sitting in her car on Brooklyn Avenue in Baldwin when a man got out of the passenger side of a nearby car that had pulled up. The man walked toward her before taking a silver handgun out and shooting at two men, who ran away from the scene, police reported.

The woman, trying to escape the gunfire, began to drive away, but the gunman shot at her car, cops said. The gunfire caused her to slam into a sign pole and the stoop of a Brooklyn Avenue home, police reported.

The man ran west on Brooklyn Avenue and got back into the passenger side of the car before driving away, cops said.

The incident happened at 6:47 p.m. Saturday.

The woman suffered a minor head injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was not struck by any bullets and no other victims were found at the scene, cops said.

The gunman is described as a black male in his 20s with a thin build, clean shaven, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and was in a gray or silver car at the time of the incident.
