Cops: Passenger Tries to Rob Cab Driver

Suspect jumped out of moving cab after failed robbery attempt.

A would-be robber in the back of a cab jumped out of the vehicle on Monday after the driver refused to hand over his cash, police said.

At about 10:20 p.m., the 48-year-old male driver picked up a fare on Woodcleft Avenue in Freeport and drove him to Grand Avenue near Brooklyn Avenue in Baldwin, according to police. The passenger then demanded the driver’s money. The driver refused, and continued to drive to the Baldwin train station.

The would-be robber — described as a white man in his late 30s or early 40s, 5 foot 8 inches with dark slicked back hair and tattoos on his arms and wearing black shorts, black t-shirt — then jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving and fled southbound on Milburn Avenue.
