Cops: Man Found with Semiautomatic Gun During Traffic Stop

Christopher Betty faces criminal weapons charges after RVC traffic stop, cops said.

A Freeport man faced criminal weapons charges after he was found with a loaded semiautomatic gun during a traffic stop, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said Christopher A. Betty, 45, of Freeport, was stopped by Rockville Centre Police as he was driving east on Sunrise Highway at 11:20 p.m. Monday. Police said he was stopped for having a broken tail light.

During the stop, officers discovered he had a loaded semiautomatic handgun in his possession and arrested him at the scene, police reported.

Betty is charged with second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and several other vehicle and traffic law violations.

He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
