POLL: What Business Should Take Over the Old RKO Twin Theater?

Vote in our poll and let your opinion be heard.

The RKO Twin movie theater on Sunrise Highway — also known as the Odeon — has been vacant for nearly a decade. We want to know what business you'd like to see takeover the vacant theater.

Alex Cepero October 26, 2011 at 02:59 PM
Whole Foods!? Are you people insane! The parking is already an issue with a vacancy in that space.
Alex Cepero October 26, 2011 at 03:11 PM
My vote goes towards a parking structure.

I agree with Mr. Cepero. A multi level Parking garage would help all in this town including village revenue. Could be 3-4 levels with the basement!

Another Police Station, to cut down on crime................

I believe they should open an over 40 club where adults can go to dance and have a good time. There are none on long island. If you are over 40 they think we should be put out to pasture.......

Please no more food stores, Italian restaurants, car dealers, banks or drug stores!! THERE ARE MORE THEN ENOUGH OF THEM!!
Deb October 26, 2011 at 04:58 PM
No more retail. A youth/teen center would give the middle/high school kids something to do other than wander the streets.

BTW. We chatted about this topic in May. http://rockvillecentre.patch.com/articles/question-of-the-day-what-would-you-want-to-see-built-at-the-odeon-theater

Seen it happen many times before, that will not enhance the neighborhood, it will bring a worse element in!
Frank October 26, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Waldbaums would be the ideal spot for a Whole Foods, Trader joes Super Store, or Stew Leonard's takeover! Waldbaums is spiraling into the ground with abject neglect to patrons, lack of upkeep, and poor selection.
Frank October 26, 2011 at 05:57 PM
A bookstore would be nice.
Susan October 26, 2011 at 06:04 PM
Our taxes go for the schools and the kids......enough already! How about something for us adults other then a bar? My taxes are astronomical and my kids are grown so I basically pay for other people's kids to be educated here. When is it our turn to reap something from the exhorbitant taxes we have paid and continue to pay? How about NOW!!!!!!! Just Sayin'

So your looking for a "middle aged" version of the Sandel Center?
Susan October 26, 2011 at 06:36 PM
No I mean a club where adults can socialize and dance like back in the 90's! Good music, good company! Not a senior center. I don't know about you but I am in no way ready to sit and rock on a rocking chair for the next 40 years!
Anthony October 26, 2011 at 06:58 PM
There are plenty of "clubs" around- Mirage, Zacherys, and I am sure plenty more. Do we really want that element coming into RVC in addition to the young trash that comes in already from out of town?
Susan October 26, 2011 at 07:11 PM
Just out of curiousity, Anthony how old are you? As a representative of "that element" Mirage and Zacharys both really suck! The music is horrendous and they do not cater to "the element, but rather to the young trash" that frequents their establishments on Saturday nights.

55 trapped in a 31 year old body...
Susan October 26, 2011 at 09:15 PM
I feel your pain!
TomH October 27, 2011 at 10:59 AM
Susan, it's getting colder but check out the rooftop at Kasey's. I'm in my mid 30's and I felt very very young with the crowd. They had a great live band a few weeks ago and I believe the minimum age (at least for men was 30)...it was packed with people in their 40's+.
TomH October 27, 2011 at 11:05 AM
I think more parking would be fine...it's been an eyesore for years and no smart business would go there. A small green space would also be ok...but I also think they should close off cars on park ave and make it a pedestrian walkway, so what do I know?
Frank October 27, 2011 at 10:59 PM
@ TomH. i like that Idea of a pedestrian walkway. NYC has 'em... Hamptons has 'em... why not RVC?
Ira Maltz October 28, 2011 at 04:24 PM
Make it a rock n roll concert hall
Susan October 28, 2011 at 05:59 PM
That is a better idea then a "cultural institution". Long Island is boring enough, if you want culture, go the Hamptons...All the antique stores, art galleries and venues for the rich and famous that you could ever want! Let's get this village ROCKIN' in the USA!!!!
robert shepard November 14, 2011 at 03:50 AM
i'm with ira. a concert venue would be great. it would reinforce the local businesses and bring in more outside revenue for the town. parking for it is, however, a problem.
Joan Kantounis February 12, 2013 at 05:54 PM
My vote is for a performing arts center with exhibit space for art shows/fine craft shows/etc. Why do we have to go all the way to the Hamptons or NYC for culture? And why could it not be designed to include dance band/dance floor space?
