Did Your Home Flood?

Hurricane Sandy brought storm surge south of Merrick Road. How are you moving forward?

High winds brought down power lines and trees, creating havoc throughout Long Island in the days and weeks after Hurricane Sandy struck.

But the storm's impact on the South Shore will remain with us for months – maybe years – to come. That's because flood damage is a disaster unto itself.

Massapequans south of Merrick Road saw storm surge flood basements and the first story of homes and businesses. Flooding brings mold damage, so affected residents were forced to act quickly.

LIPA also required additional inspections of homes that suffered flooding before restoring power. There are still 32 customers in the Massapequas without power 20 days later.

Now FEMA is asking familes with wrecked homes to shelter in place.

We want to hear from you. Between LIPA, FEMA, TOBAY, contractors and insurance companies, what's been your biggest challenge in trying to restore normalcy and get your life back on track?
