RVC Hit with Village-Wide Blackout

Village officials have not released the cause of the blackout.

A village-wide blackout struck Rockville Centre on Tuesday morning, but village officials have yet to release information as to why the village lost power.

Rockville Centre went dark around 10:40 a.m., and the outage spread from as far north as Vanderveer Court to south of Lincoln Avenue.

The village sent out emergency texts, phone calls and emails through its Swift 911 system that said: "There is a village wide power outage. The Rockville Centre Electric Department is working to restore power as quickly as possible. We will update with further information. Thank you for your patience and cooperation."

According to the Rockville Centre Schools Facebook page, only was affected by the blackout. All other schools will be dismissed at normal time, the district site stated.

Residents chimed in on the RVC Patch Facebook page on where they saw power outages, which stretched from Clinton Avenue, to the commercial downtown strip from Sunrise Highway to Merrick Road, and portions of the south side of the village.

Portions of the village south of Lincoln Avenue had its power restored by 1 p.m. Reports from residents in the Old Canterbury section of RVC state that power was also restored by 2 p.m.
