Arriving much earlier than usual and occurring concurrently as Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, begins Wednesday at sundown.

Here are this year’s menorah lightings:

  • The Malverne Jewish Center will host a lighting of the Menorah on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Malverne LIRR station.

  • The Village of Lynbrook’s menorah lighting will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the corner of Merrick Road and Hempstead Avenue.

  • Nassau County will light a six-foot menorah on Monday at 6 p.m. in parking field 2 of Eisenhower Park.

  • Rockville Centre’s community menorah lighting is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6:15 p.m. at Temple B’nai Sholom, located at 100 Hempstead Ave.

It's so good to hear the Patch calling these ceremonies 'Menorah Lighting Ceremonies' instead of 'Holiday Candle Lighting' ceremonies....It's the RIGHT thing to do...I wonder if Patch will show the same respect to the Christians and call it a 'Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony' and not 'Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony'???
