Third Annual Poetry Contest Deadline for Entries

The Village of Great Neck Plaza’s third annual Poetry Contest is underway and poets, 18 years of age and older, residing in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties are requested to submit their entries, which must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2013 to be considered.  The winners will be announced on Mar. 21 on the Village’s website.  An Awards Day Reading will be held on Sun., April 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Village Hall in the Court Room honoring all winners.  The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.  If you have never been to a poetry reading, don’t miss this one.  It stands to be another great reading day.


The First prize winner will receive $150 and a 20-minute reading at the open reading.  Second prize winner will receive $75 and a 10-minute reading at the open reading Third prize winner will receive $50 and a 5-minute reading at the open reading.  Honorable Mention titles will be presented as well.  In addition, each of the three winning poems will be posted for one month on seven, secure outdoor village sign posts, on the bulletin board in Great Neck Plaza Village Hall, and in the waiting room of the Great Neck LIRR train station building.  Each poem that wins honorable mention will be similarly posted for two weeks at the various locations.  To find out more on the Third Annual Poetry Contest rules and how to enter, please visit http://www.greatneckplaza.net/Poetry Contest.html.
