The Church of Saint Mary will host the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 8:45 AM to 8:00 PM. The Statue arrives at St. Mary’s through the efforts of the World Apostolate of Fatima, the organization named by the Vatican to be the official conveyor of Church teaching on the message of Fatima.

The Statue is a beautiful hand carved work of art, crafted according to the descriptions of Sister Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries.  She was given to the United States by the Bishop of Fatima, blessed by Pope Paul VI in 1967 and has been traveling through the Unites States since then. Considered the official presence of Fatima in the United States, many miracles and healings are attributed to this statue.

The Rosary Society and the Pastoral Staff of St. Mary’s have worked closely with the World Apostolate of Fatima to present a full-day of celebration and prayer in her honor with activities including the Welcome and Unveiling Ceremony at 8:45 AM followed by Mass at 9:00 AM, the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary at 9:40 AM, and a presentation by the Statue custodian, William Sockeye at 10:00 AM will explain how the message of Fatima is more important now than ever and what we can do to earn the blessings on our Country that Our Lady promised if her requests were fulfilled. The day will continue with recitation of the Rosary, Marian Vespers and time for private prayer and veneration.

In addition, the Knights of Columbus Father William A. Daly Council #2122 will be providing and all-day Honor Guard, an informative video on Fatima will be playing in the Marian Room, and material from the World Apostolate of Fatima will be offered for sale.

All those interested in attending this celebration at any point during the day are welcome to St. Mary’s Parish. A downloadable itinerary can be found on www.stmary.ws under the Parish Calendar of Events. Thanks Nora, I agree. It was very disappointing and makes me now question the other scare tacticsRead More the district is using. Does anyone else know what other tactics they are using with the elementary students? Are they just as bad or did Ms. McGinn really step over the boundary on this one. We send our children to school to learn not be manipulated. I've lost all respect for Ms. McGinn and everyone who is a part of this.

ssmsmom, I read your post and then asked my MS child what she heard. She confirmed your daughter'sRead More account. I then asked her if she knew why the uniform issue was being raised. She said (laughing) "so that they get all the moms out to vote yes on the budget." This kind of blatant manipulation undermines the credibility and authority of school management. It also makes it very difficult for parents to teach their children respect for those in authority positions. You can trust them, but.......You must listen to what they tell you to do, but....... Really very disappointed in all those involved in this strategy. Not funny, not "for the good of the children". Self- serving and disgraceful.

The PTA email also said if the bond doesn't pass (chances are zero of that) that class size willRead More increase to 30. Just silly. US News shows us at a teacher student ratio of 10/1. If we went to 30/1 it would mean laying off 2/3rds of our teaching staff. I can't understand how that can be accurate? Can anyone explain? And please don't tell me to go to a BOE meeting. The vote is tomorrow and this email came out today.

And many of them will leave because the job pays next to nothing. Proctoring will be turned into aRead More complete nightmare

Many companies and municipalities are doing the same, as was predicted when the ACA was debated.Read More Logical business decision.

Well been there, I haven't explained anything about AP, I told you I don't know. I also did not sayRead More I think that our SAT's are not good, only that you cannot compare them to Jerichos. I said that our kids scores are obviously more than good enough to get them into great schools year after year and have them be successful in college and beyond, and that you should not get caught up in the statistic. I also have not said I think we are a rich district, the state treats us as such along with much of LI....I thought I made clear that I disagree with them. I am not trying to explain away anything, I think the actual facts of our schools' success tell the story.

Janet, you really seem to know so much about how the district operates, and not just this year, butRead More also the history of decisions made by past Boards. Thank you for presenting facts clearly and intelligently, without sarcasm and threats, and with true knowledge. Kudos to you!!

Problem is Janet you can't have it both ways. When you want to explain away our poor showing on APRead More and SAT, you look to demographics and state that parents in Jericho spend so much more privately on their children. When you want to explain the budget mess you look to the state and say that we are being penalized for being a wealthy district.

Hey Matt Hogan, While I don't buy into posts that you are Johnson's press secretary and him havingRead More a hand in running this publication, I do believe myself and many other readers here would appreciate an in depth, unbiased and objective interview w/ him asking the tuff questions your readers asked here. He always seems available to comment on and inflate the slightest bit of positive news, perhaps he would like the opportunity to comment on and explain his take on the latest rankings, etc. Have you or any member of your staff ever directly interviewed him or requested and interview w/ him and would you consider requesting such an interview?

It is nothing short of amazing that people are still rushing to the defense of Johnson/Burris andRead More their minions at the PTA. What's wrong w/ you people? When the rankings come out positive they do everything they can to publicise them from plaques on the wall to streaming video on the district website and everything in between. Yet not a peep on the latest rankings. 500+ ranking in NYS, people thats based solely on test scores not the # of kids taking the test and how many free lunches the district provides. Do any of you wonder at all why Johnson encouraged kids to "opt out" of NYS testing? If so let me help you out...The scores are going to be awful and would have been worse had all the kids participated. The quality of life in this town and its education system is circling the bowl, we need positive change not the same old go along to get along mentality. Pls think about voting for Ms Rubino, we need some balance and accountability on that board not a bunch of Johnson puppets. Not sure when Johnson's contract is up but he too has got to go, he is slowly destroying this district. We might try to hire Baldwin's superintendant as he really seems to know what he is doing when it comes to AP.

This is the funniest blog post ever. Someone thinks Patch is run by Johnson, another should haveRead More used the more appropriate pseudonym "know it all" and the most recent thinks the PTA is ruining our neighborhood. Go to a meeting, get involved, educate yourself. If you can't go to a meeting watch the local government and school channel. Then perhaps you would know that the bulk of the school budget is dictated by NY state.
