David Jacobs: Sight and Sound
Hours: 11am-4pm Tue-Fri, 7-9pm Thu, 1-4pm Sat-Sun
This singular exhibition by Karen T. Albert, associate director of exhibitions and collections, Hofstra University Museum highlights selected works from the prolific career of the contemporary artist David Jacobs. Multiple aspects of his artistic directions and sensibilities are conveyed through the sculptures on view which date from 1959 to 1987. Featured is his 'Sound Columns Environment,' part of his famous 'Wah Wah' series, works that exemplify his use of non-traditional materials to create a dynamic aesthetic. These large-scale sculptures use principals of physics and engineering to create sound using air. The artist seeks for the viewer to actively participate with his works by immersing themselves in the sensory experiences he creates.
