Small Fire Doused at Parrots of the World

Flames sparked from malfunctioning water pump in fish tank, officials said.

A small fire broke out at a Sunrise Highway pet shop late Monday night, and officials said the blaze was extinguished within minutes without injuries to any of the animals or responding firefighters.

According to John Busching, chief of the Rockville Centre Fire Department, the call came in around 9 p.m. on Monday night after a circulation pump in one of the fish tanks at caught fire. He said the small fire was put out in minutes, and the department brought in large fans to aerate the store, which had filled with smoke.

"The fire was out in minutes," he said. "We had to bring in large fans to blow the smoke out."
