Oct. 19: Busy Weekend, Facebook Goal Reached

Find out what's going on in and around the village today.

  1. There's a lot to do this weekend in Rockville Centre. The Center for Science, Teaching and Learning at Tanglewood Preserve has announced its 2012 Spooky Fest, which will take place Oct. 19-21 (as well as next weekend). Also, he first annual Family Fun Fitness Day and Substance Use Awareness Walk will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. at South Side High School. Lastly, The Macabre Faire Grim Gathering Halloween Extravaganza is coming to Best Western Hotel from Oct. 19-21.
  2. Our weekly "Crimes Nearby" column posts today at 2 p.m. Come back then for a look at crime in towns surrounding RVC, including a stabbing at a local high school football game last week.
  3. In case you missed it, the South Side Cyclones girls varsity volleyball team raised a lot of money for the fight against breast cancer earlier this week. Click here to see how much they raised and learn how you can donate.
  4. The South Side boys soccer team will look to build on its major upset of Jericho this week when the Cyclones host Roslyn at 4:30 p.m. at Skelos Field this afternoon. Meanwhile, the first-place girl soccer team travels to Division for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff. And just in case there wasn't enough to do this weekend, the football team hosts Division Saturday at 2 p.m. in an attempt to avoid a two-game losing streak.
