National Grid Finishes N. Village Road Work
County will now repave road; eyes late September completion date.
Residents may have seen an abundance of road work in the village over the past week, but only the first portion of the work is complete, officials said.
Nassau County planned to repave a part of North Village Avenue — heading north from Sunrise Highway — but before it could move forward with the project, National Grid had to replace a gas main under the village road.
Elizabeth Margulies, spokeswoman for National Grid, said the utility company runs a program where it updates gas mains, and the one under North Village Avenue was due to be replaced.

"The county identified the road for repaving," Margulies said. "So instead of them repaving the road and then us ripping it up, we bumped this project up on our list, so that the county could complete their project."
Margulies added that the gas main was not leaking, but was identified by National Grid officials as needing an upgrade.

Shila Shah-Gavnoudias, commissioner of the county's department of public works, said that the county needed to wait for National Grid to finish its work before it could move forward with its repaving project, which he said should take a month to complete.
"The county must wait for them to finish before resurfacing can begin," he said. "The job is projected to be completed approximately one month after LIPA is finished with their utility work."
