Local Panera Bakeries Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research

Panera locations across Long Island are helping raise money for breast cancer prevention and research.

Sept. 30 was "Power of Pink Day" at the Long Island, Staten Island and Queens Panera Bread bakery-cafes — the day was aimed at kicking off a month-long campaign to raise dollars and hope for prevention and research into breast cancer, as well as bolster support for its victims.

With 100 percent of the purchase price of each Pink Ribbon Bagel being donated, the area’s 28 Panera Bread sold more than 7,800 of these special bagels and raised nearly $10,000. But there’s more good news: the campaign continues through Oct. 31 and 25 cents from each Pink Ribbon Bagel and $1 from each Power of Pink Baker’s Dozen will help provide essential support to local organizations.

“Our goal this year is to bake and sell more than 75,000 Pink Ribbon Bagels,” said Greg George, the Vice President of Operations for Long Island Panera.
