UPDATE: Lakeview Gang Leader Charged With Attempted Murder in RVC

English Thomas was already being held on pending murder charges.

Update: This story was updated on Oct. 8 at 12:20 p.m. with a quote from the RVCPD.

A Lakeview Crips gang leader, already being held on seperate murder charges, now faces additional charges after allegedly attempting to kill a rival Bloods gang member in Rockville Centre early last year.

According to Newsday [paid link], a grand jury recently indicted English Thomas, 29, on charges of attempted murder in aid of racketeering, attempted assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Prosecutors said he fired shots from the Rockville Centre train station toward a nearby lounge on Feb. 21, 2011. The name of Thomas' alleged target was not released, but the indictment asserts Thomas tried to kill the Hempstead man "for the purpose of maintaining and increasing position in the Crips."

According to Lt. James Vafeades of the RVCPD, "The incident took place on Front Street in the vicinity of N. Park Avenue and the LIRR. The Vibe Lounge was the nearby lounge that was referred to."

The report continues to state that Thomas, who is from Uniondale, is a leader in the Lakeview gang called the "Insane Gangsta Crips."

Thomas is already awaiting trial in the murder of a Yonkers woman and shooting of her husband and 12-year-old daughter, which occurred back in April 2010. Officials say Thomas was the getaway driver during the shooting for Charles Parsley, 28, and Kasaun White, 29, both of Old Mill Court.

Parsley and White were sentenced to 75 years to life in state prison for the crime back in June.

Good riddance. To RVC PD and Nassau PD. Please continue to do your utmost and eliminate the gang element in OMC and Lakeview.

Anyone could've been hit with those recklessly fired shots! Isn't it past time that this individual was removed from our community?

My husband and I are in our late 20's and considering purchasing our first home in RVC; we have no children yet, however, we do plan on having children soon. I would just like some honest opinions from those of you who live in RVC... many people tell me OMC is not an issue at all and I am blowing the whole gangs and shooting events out of proportion but i cannot help but feel that they are just trying to protect the name of the town in which they live...do those of you with children feel completly safe... is OMC really a nonissue.. i just cant help but think that I will regret purchasing a home where the taxes are 20,000 and yet i am afraid to have my child go to the public library in fear that they will be hit by a stray bullet. Id really appreciate some honest feed back. Thanks!

Molly. I assume you wouldnt buy in the vicinity of OMC? RVC is a great litte town that has its issues. OMC, is one of them...but those issues rarely infect the rest of the town. I believe the Library thing was an anomoly and Im a cynic. If you buy a home far from OMC, you will deal with the usual issues of any suburban town...teens, petty crimes etc. The key is to be aware, be involved... know your neighbors and know what your kids are up to. Then, RVC is wonderful. I live on a great block where we all complain about the taxes...but we all know eachother and watch out for eachothers kids. If you settle into a nice million dollar home, put your head up your you know what and send your perfect kids out into the night....you are on your own. There is trouble to be found and it will be found. The schools are great, the sports are abundant, the Rec Center is wonderful and the eating is good...a great foundation for kids.

Im guessing this incident happened by VIBE LOUNGE by the LIRR. That place is a death trap and draws an out of town crowd. I thought underground clubs were illegal because of a fire hazard?

Anthony, can you find out the whole story? Where exactly the shooting took place?

I've lived in Rockville Centre for 8 years now. We moved here when we were pregnant with our second. Honestly, I think it's a great town to live in & raise my children in. OMC, has never been an issue & in fact my pediatricians office just moved pretty close to there. I've never felt unsafe walking around anywhere (although, I don't go walking around in OMC at night). RVC does have a great area of bars & restaurants that my husband & I do go to when we have a babysitter & again we think it's great. We even will walk home from the restaurants or train station if we want to go out & enjoy a bottle of wine. As stated above, the rec center has great programs for the kids & the schools are ranked pretty high. (Our house is actually in Oceanside school district and we are really happy with it).

That's crazy how no one ever talks about the craziness that goes on in the village..... they just bad mouth omc like its ntn but a bunch of killers living there......yes the incident was very upsetting..... but omc is not the issue the issue is the ppl that are to busy minding other ppls business instead of there own which causes the issues inside of the projects

My family has lived in RVC for 20 yrs and honestly this town is going down the tubes. My wife doesn't feel safe walking around town without me and I am uneasy when my son asks to walk anywhere at dusk. House / car breakins, graffiti , have increased tremendously over the last year . If the crime continues to rise we will have no choice but to move to another town .

Facts are facts....OMC is a small section of RVC, yet over the last few years , numerous residents of OMC have been arrested for MURDER (Perryman,White,Parsley,Rutledge,Daniels, Thomas..etc).... Thats unacceptable ! .. and those are just the murderers I could find in the news sites... How many more gang members from OMC have been arrested for shootings, robberys, drug dealing etc... ? and you think the village residents should mind their own business? HA... OMC needs the Police to mind their business...
Frank October 08, 2012 at 02:33 PM
@ Dave. Don't forget the Lakeview crews that like to "visit" OMC for "business".

@ MollyF I have lived in RVC for almost 20 years and I have to say it is a great town and a great place to bring up your children. Both of my kids graduated from Southside HS and they had an amazing experience there. There are wonderful restaurants in town which we frequent often. I walked the streets of RVC at all hours of the day and night and Im never really afraid but Im courteous as I would be anywhere. No town is perfect but I will say you won't regret moving here. Good Luck house searching!

Let me say something. I am going to the theater after work next week and won't get home, probably, until 11 PM. I am taking a cab to the train, not my car, as usual, so I can take a cab home because I am fearful of walking in the lot alone at night BECAUSE OF OMC! Let's not be naive.
