A Little Something is Better Than Nothing

Exercise doesn't have to be a big production! Sometimes the small changes can add up to a major one.

I had a full class for my ChrisFit Boot Camp that I run at Kiddie Academy in Lynbrook.

After the class was over, I spoke to a woman that has been to 4 or 5 of my boot camps before. I told her she did a great job tonight and thanked her for coming.

She responded by saying, “Have you ever just done something, but not really been in the mood to do it, but did it anyway? Well, that’s how I felt tonight. I wasn’t sure if I was going to even come.”

I told her, “You definitely made the right decision by coming! Doing something is always better than doing nothing when it comes to exercise.”

As I explained to her that she had elevated her heart rate, burned calories, strengthened muscles, and accomplished a goal by just getting to my class, she smiled and said, “I guess you’re right, it’s better than what I would’ve done had I stayed home.”

The minute I got in my car I realized what a valuable lesson this was to share. Exercising doesn’t need to be a whole production.

You don’t need a gym, a trainer, a treadmill, weights, workout clothes, or anything for that matter! All you need is to get moving.  Take a walk down the street or just walk up the stairs a number of times. If it’s more than you’ve been doing up until now, it’s an improvement.

I remember my grandmother walking around her basement 100 times a day when she was too old to walk around her neighborhood anymore. My brother and I found it humorous then, but looking back I realize she was right…doing something is better than doing nothing at all!

So, look for ways you can increase the physical activity in your own life every day. Just remember that whatever you chose to do is better than doing nothing at all!
