Sunrise Taco Bell to Reopen in 2012

Officials hope to complete work by the end of the year.

A popular fast food chain on Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre is getting a much-needed face lift, and officials expect to unveil an upraded version of it by the end of the year.

According to Clint Langley, construction manager for Taco Bell, they razed the Taco Bell at 570 Sunrise Highway about two months ago and are currently constructing a more efficient, albeit slightly smaller version of it to better serve customers. Langley said the interior layout will resemble a rectangle — rather than a square like in the original model — which will alter the kitchen layout and allow for quicker service.

"We have a new, prototype kitchen layout that's more efficient," Langley said. "It will give customers a quicker experience."

The new Taco Bell will have a more traditional layout, he explained, and the drive-thru will also be altered. After paying for food at the drive-thru at the original Taco Bell, customers were forced to make an awkard exit onto Sunrise Highway, especially if they wanted to make a left-hand turn onto Oceanside Road.

The new drive-thru will loop exiting customers back to the entrance ramp where they originally came in, making for a safer exit onto Sunrise Highway.

Langley said renovations are 50 percent done, and they hope to finish by the end of the year.
